Motion Sensors
Motion Reference Units (MRU) are a high-performance motion sensor that measures Roll, Pitch, Heave, Sway, Surge, Accelerations, Angular rates and Velocity for any rig, ship or vessel on which it is mounted.
ShoreConnection recommend a high-performance, compact, and affordable 6 DOF motion sensors. These use state-of-the-art MEMS technology and advanced sensor fusion algorithms, resulting in accurate and reliable roll, pitch, yaw, surge, sway, heave position and velocity measurements. Performance is high also during horizontal accelerations and in irregular coupled motions. The sensor we recommend has a lifetime accuracy in roll and pitch without recalibration and has a long expected lifespan.
The MRU we recommend is ideal for use in marine applications such as active heave compensation of offshore cranes and helideck motion monitoring. High performance in irregular motions makes it ideal for real sea conditions. The sensor is IP68 rated and located inside a robust anodized aluminum housing. The sensor is also low maintenance with a long calibration interval.
The upcoming CAP 437 regulation 9c states that the MRU should be mounted on the helideck support structure and mounted within a hemisphere under the helideck of radius 4.0 meters centered at the center of the yellow touchdown circle. (under the H )
Exact placement according to the various helideck regulations provides high quality accurate motion data for our systems.
We can supply EX D Certified MRUs suitable for Hazardous environments (ATEX).
We can also recalibrate some existing units and reuse customers’ existing sensors.
